No sleep, little aid: Salesian nun pleads for more help for Haitians - Catholic News Service, 1/29/10:
"We're a center of reference for the community, and people come to us for help in solving their problems. Our job is to find the resources and people to solve those problems."

"While the people are dying, the international organizations are passing their time in meetings, in studies and planning. People fly around in helicopters looking at us, making the houses shake once again. But while they're planning, the people are dying. We've now gone more than two weeks without any help, and they haven't contacted those of us who could be most helpful in organizing the people."

Teresa, that's terrible. I see a lot of 'reporters' on TV reporting, and all kinds of video coming out of Haiti. Too many spectators!

We have been raising all kinds of money at work for Haiti, and are still waiting to see our first batch of survivors flown in to the hospital. Only one so far. I wonder what is happening? Why can we not see more coming?

I haven't been watching the TV but Dan Rather said on NPR that it's cheaper to rebuild their lives there than to relocate them here. Another radio commentator recommended they cultivate tourism as their neighbor has. It might be too late for tourism.

I'd prefer Haitians to come to the US, especially if disease becomes rampant in Haiti. And I see you are expecting some survivors ... I hope they come quickly to you! Peace.

Thanks Teresa. It is our hope to help out with medical care as there is a dire need for health care workers there. Due to the earthquake, the health care environment there is primitive, and doctors there are doing the best they can under the circumstances. My hospital is preparing itself to take care of those who need more care than what can be provided on the ground in Haiti.

I want to share with you a prophetic piece I just wrote this morning about Haiti.

May God bless you for your continued support of those in need.

Peace.
